Lexington Medical Center constructing $31.5M surgery center — 6 insights

Wake Forest Baptist Health – Lexington Medical Center is constructing a 26,500-square-foot, $31.5 million surgery center in Lexington, N.C., The Dispatch reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. The center will be jointly funded by Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and through charitable donations.

2. The health system developed the center over the last two years.

3. The center will have four operating rooms, a cystoscopy procedure room, 10 post-anesthesia care units and a dedicated waiting area.

4. The surgery center will allow the hospital to phase out its nearly 40-year-old surgical facilities.

5. Construction is expected to begin this summer and conclude sometime in late fall 2019.

6. The hospital's four existing surgical rooms will be converted into procedure rooms once the center is opened.
