Here are three things to know:
1. The plans are not solidified at this time, but are likely to feature affordable housing, medical facilities, community space and shops.
2. Within the allotted medical facility space, officials say they plan to develop a surgery cetner, medical offices as well as a patient and family housing center.
3. Legacy Health had plans to expand its Portland-based Legacy Memorial Medical Center nearly 45 years ago by bulldozing nearly 300 homes and businesses. While the expansion plans never came to fruition, the homes and shops were demolished.
In a statement, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said, “I don’t view today’s announcement as an attempt to make up for what has transpired. Rather, today’s announcement indicates our shared path toward the future.”
