Waterloo, Iowa-based Cedar Valley Medical Specialists has ended operations, according to an Oct. 31 statement from Gregory Harter, MD, and the group’s physician leadership posted on Facebook.
The group said its physicians were willing to keep working without pay “throughout this crisis” to preserve access to care, and that physicians and staff have volunteered their time to help patients during the transition.
The closure doesn’t mean all of the group’s practices are closing, according to the post. Many physicians and care teams are working to keep seeing patients through new or independent practices.
At least one CVMS physician is moving to Waverly Health, according to another Facebook post from Dr. Harter. He said the move had been planned for January 2027 but will now happen sooner. The practice will most likely operate out of the hospital in Waverly, Iowa, until it has an accredited location in Waterloo, which the physician expects in two to three months.
“I never wanted to leave my staff or patients with no place to go,” Dr. Harter wrote.
