Lawmakers Introduce Legislation Calling for a Hearing Over Glen Cove Hospital Conversion to ASC

New York state lawmakers recently introduced legislation that calls for North-Shore Long Island Jewish Health System to be subject to local hearing in regard to its plan to covert Glen Cove (N.Y.) Hospital to an ambulatory surgery center, according to a Long Island Newsday report.

North Shore-LIJ announced its intention to eliminate a large number of hospital beds and convert the facility to an ASC over the summer. The announcement was met with widespread dissent from the community.

Assemblyman Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove) introduced the bill last month and Senator Carl Marcellino (R-Syosset) introduced the bill to the senate last week.

The state health department is currently reviewing North Shore-LIJ’s application to decertify inpatient psychiatric services and 18 beds.
