HCA Healthcare adds 3 ASCs, outpatient cases up 3.2% in 2018: 5 things to know

Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare reported an increase in overall revenue in 2018, hitting $46.6 billion.

Five things to know about its outpatient and ambulatory business:

1. While the number of hospitals HCA Healthcare operates has stayed flat at 179, the company added three ASCs year over year, reaching 123 centers nationwide.

2. The company’s outpatient surgery cases increased 1.4 percent in the fourth quarter, to reach 256,240 cases, and 3.2 percent for the full year, hitting 971,537 cases.

3. Outpatient revenue was 38.2 percent of patient revenues in the fourth quarter and the full year of 2018, relatively flat compared to 2017.

4. Same-facility outpatient surgery cases increased 0.8 percent in the fourth quarter and 1.8 percent in the full year, hitting 924,298. At the same time, the company’s inpatient cases increased 0.1 percent for the fourth quarter and 0.8 percent for the full year.

5. The company made a $1 billion offering of senior secured notes and said proceeds could be used on acquisitions.
