Hackensack Meridian acquiring independent hospital, ambulatory care sites — 3 insights

Hackensack Meridian Health will acquire Englewood Health, one of a waning number of independent hospitals in New Jersey, NorthJersey.com reports.

What you should know:

1. Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack will acquire the hospital and its network of 100 ambulatory care sites.

2. Hackensack will invest $400 million into Englewood Health’s operating rooms, cardiac facilities and outpatient sites. Hackensack will also take on Englewood’s $182 million in outstanding debt.

3. After the acquisition closes, New Jersey will only have 12 independent hospitals left out of 71 total facilities. The acquisition is subject to approval by the state’s attorney general and the Federal Trade Commission.
