Here are five key notes:
1. The new surgery center is adjacent to Great Lakes Eye Care and offers outpatient eye surgery.
2. The ASC includes a dedicated space for cataract surgeries and other types of eye procedures, as there is a growing number of Americans with cataracts. According to the report, 24 million Americans currently have cataracts, and over the next 30 years that number is expected to double.
3. The center officially opened in March and is hosting an open house next week.
4. Eight ophthalmologists and two optometrists make up the Great Lakes staff and will perform cases at the ASC, which has two operating rooms and two procedure rooms.
5. Surgeons will be able to perform Lasik procedures in addition to corneal and retinal transplants, lens implants and cosmetic surgery for drooping eyelids.
