Georgia Regents Medical Center acquires stake in Surgery Center of Columbia County: 4 things to know

Georgia Regents Medical Center in Augusta has bought a 30 percent stake in Surgery Center of Columbia in Evans, Ga., according to The Augusta Chronicle.

Here are four things to know about the acquisition.

1. The surgery center is owned by University Health Resources, an affiliate of Augusta, Ga.-based University Health Care System. A number of physicians also have ownership in the center, according to the report.

2. GRMC paid approximately $300,000 for its 30 percent stake.

3. At one time, GRMC had its own ASC, but a previous administrator at the hospital closed the center, according to the report.

4. GRMC needed somewhere to schedule outpatient cases, and the surgery center had unused capacity, according to the report.
