LEC was Hawaii’s first laser vision surgery center and is closing after 14 years of operations.

“The economy has taken a heavy toll on the Center,” said Dennis Kuwabara, OD, FAAO, LEC manager, according to a news release from LEC. “Despite our best efforts, these factors forced us to make some very tough decisions about the future of LEC … After considerable discussion, we all agreed that we should no longer schedule patients at the Center and instead, offer patients ongoing care through our network of affiliated panel doctors and the surgeons’ private practices.”

The network includes more than 135 ophthalmology and optometry physicians.
