Here are four takeaways:

1. Hiroji Noguchi, MD, a general surgeon, is leading the clinic.

2. His past leadership experience includes serving as a medical director at a Honolulu-based ASC and chair of surgery at Kailua, Hawaii-based Castle Medical Center.

3. The clinic’s opening coincides with Dr. Noguchi’s triumph over cholangiocarcinoma, a type of bile duct cancer. Providers told Dr. Noguchi in August 2014 he had between three months and six months to live. He defied the odds and underwent a liver transplant in June 2016 and is on the road to recovery.

4. Dr.  Noguchi told Daily-Times Leade, “I learned a lot, being the patient. The patient usually does whatever the doctor says because you believe it’s what you have to do. I have learned a lot more about being on the patient side.”
