Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Cottage Children's Medical Center opened a new pediatric surgery center in Goleta, Calif., and also appointed Robert Kanard, MD, as its chief of pediatric surgery, Noozhawk reports.
Here's what you should know:
1. The surgery center will provide patients gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, thoracic, congenital anomaly, trauma, emergency, endocrine, oncology and general surgical services.
2. Dr. Kanard will oversee the center in his new role.
3. After earning his medical degree from Saint Louis University Health Sciences Center, he completed a residency at the University of Louisville (Ky.) Medical Center followed by fellowships at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
He said, "I believe pediatric surgery can be painless and scarless. My philosophy for treating children is rooted in being a parent. I treat every child as I would want my children to be treated."
