Competing Alabama Hospitals Ask State to Require Surgery Center CON for Helen Keller Hospital

Two hospitals in Alabama have asked the state to require Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Ala., to apply for a certificate of need to operate an existing ambulatory surgery center, according to a report from the TimesDaily.

The hospitals — RegionalCare Hospital Partners-owned Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence and Shoals Hospital in Muscle Shoals — claim Helen Keller Hospital attempted to circumvent the CON process for the ASC.

 

Helen Keller Hospital claims it does not need the CON as it leased the surgery center space from another company, according to the report.
