Becker’s reported on seven significant hospital transactions announced or advanced across the U.S. between Oct. 14 and Oct. 22.
Here are the seven deals:
1. Samaritan Health Services and MultiCare Health System
Corvallis, Ore.-based Samaritan Health Services and Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Health System received board approval for an affiliation. The two systems plan to sign a formal agreement in the coming weeks, bringing Samaritan under MultiCare’s umbrella. The affiliation is expected to be finalized by mid-2026.
2. Hartford HealthCare acquires two Connecticut hospitals
Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare secured the bid to acquire Manchester Memorial Hospital and Rockville General Hospital in Vernon, Conn., for $86.1 million. No competing bids were submitted before the Oct. 17 deadline, canceling a bankruptcy auction originally scheduled for Oct. 22.
3. Allegheny Health Network to acquire Heritage Valley Health System
Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network signed an agreement Oct. 16 to acquire Heritage Valley Health System in Beaver, Pa. The deal would make Heritage Valley’s two hospitals the 15th and 16th facilities in AHN’s network, with all outpatient clinics and physician practices to be fully integrated.
4. Montefiore Health System and Garnet Health move toward affiliation
Montefiore Health System in New York City and Garnet Health signed a letter of intent Oct. 15 for Garnet to join Montefiore through a strategic affiliation. The organizations plan to complete a definitive agreement by the end of 2025, pending due diligence and regulatory approvals.
5. UPMC eyes entry into Ohio
Pittsburgh-based UPMC signed a nonbinding letter of intent Oct. 15 to acquire Trinity Health System in Steubenville, Ohio. The acquisition would mark UPMC’s entry into the Ohio market. Trinity, which operates three hospitals, is currently owned by Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health.
6. UC San Diego Health and Palomar Health form new joint authority
UC San Diego Health and Palomar Health in Escondido, Calif., received approval Oct. 14 from the University of California Regents and the Palomar Health District Board to form a joint powers authority. The JPA, expected to be finalized at the end of October, will require approval from the state’s Office of Health Care Affordability.
7. Winning bids selected for two Prospect Medical hospitals
Los Angeles-based Prospect Medical Holdings identified winning bidders for two of its closed Pennsylvania hospitals during a bankruptcy auction.
- Chariot Allaire Partners submitted the winning $10 million bid for Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pa.
- Restorative Health Foundation and Syan Investments jointly won Springfield Hospital in Springfield, Pa., with a $3 million bid.
