Here are seven ASCs that have changed or are trying to change hands in 2023:
1. Central Maine Health Ventures, a subsidiary of Auburn-based Central Maine Healthcare, is attempting to acquire full ownership of its ASC, Central Maine Orthopaedics Ambulatory Surgical Center in Auburn. Currently, 50% of the ASC is owned by Spectrum Healthcare Partners. Spectrum used to own the entirety of the ASC before giving Central Maine Health 25% ownership four years ago. A year later, it gave the system an additional 25%.
2. Buffalo, N.Y.-based Catholic Health took over Lockport, N.Y.-based Eastern Niagara Health System’s ASC in June following Eastern Niagara Hospital’s bankruptcy filing and permanent closure.
3. The Oregon Health Authority approved a material change transaction that transferred ownership of five ASCs in the state from Envision Healthcare to its ASC-focused subsidiary AmSurg. AmSurg is also taking over the rest of Envision’s ASC portfolio this year in a major transaction following Envision’s bankruptcy filing.
