Here are five updates:

1. In its request, Marshfield Clinic proposed building a hospital with a surgery center.

2. On June 14, the Oneida County (Wis.) Planning and Development Committee denied the clinic’s permit to build the 72,000-square-foot facility.

3. The committee stated the addition did not meet a standard, stating, “the establishment, maintenance or operation of the conditional use will not be detrimental to or endanger the public health, safety, morals, comfort or general welfare.”

4. Marshfield Clinic plans to hire outside legal counsel to represent the clinic when the Oneida County Board of Adjustment hears the clinic’s appeal.

5. Marshfield Clinic has 30 days to make an appeal. In a statement, William Melms, MD, the clinic’s medical director, said, “Although we are disappointed in the committee’s decision, we remain resolute in our intention to build a hospital.”
