Here are four hospital closures Becker’s has reported on since Aug. 1:

1. Banner Health will end emergency services at its Loveland, Colo.-based Banner McKee Medical Center on Nov. 5 as the facility is converted to a specialty hospital. Banner will also be closing a freestanding emergency department and its Banner Urgent Care Center in Greeley, Colo. on Nov. 5, and the Banner Health Clinic OB-GYN practice at Greeley-based Summitview Medical Commons will relocate with existing Banner OB-GYN services in Larimer County (Colo.).

2. Willows, Calif.-based Glenn Medical Center plans to close its emergency department, with the hospital closing shortly after, following CMS’ plan to revoke its critical access hospital designation, effective Oct. 21. A spokesperson confirmed with Becker’s that while GMC has a path forward to preserve its primary care and specialty clinics, the ED and hospital services will end.

3. Chicago-based Weiss Memorial Hospital closed the morning of Aug. 8 amid CMS’ plan to terminate its Medicare program participation, Huy Nguyen, chief of staff for state Rep. Hoan Huynh of the 13th District, where Weiss Memorial is located, confirmed with Becker’s.

4. St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis officially closed Aug. 1, a spokesperson for the Chesterfield, Mo.-based health system told Becker’s. The decision follows years of declining patient volumes and mounting financial challenges that made continued operation of the 143-bed hospital as an acute care facility unsustainable.
