3 physician-owned hospitals sold or shut down

The ACA imposed a moratorium on physician-owned hospitals in 2010, preventing the development of 37 planned physician-owned hospitals, according to a report the Trump administration released in late 2018.

Since the moratorium took effect, several physician-owned hospitals been sold or shut down.

Three to know:

El Paso (Texas) Specialty Hospital, a physician-owned facility, closed at the end of 2018 for financial and operational reasons.

Healthcare acquisition and management company New Manna Augusta bought Casper, Wyo.-based Summit Medical Center, which was previously a physician-owned hospital, March 1.

The physician-owned Clarksville, Ind.-based Kentuckiana Medical Center closed in April after a decade of financial woes.
