U.S. military accidentally ships anthrax, possibly exposes lab workers: 4 key notes

The United States military inadvertently shipped live anthrax via FedEx, which resulted in four lab workers in the United States and up to 22 overseas being put in post-exposure treatment, reports CNN.

Here are four key notes, according to the report:

1. The anthrax shipments were believed to be dead, but a Maryland lab received live samples, and samples left over at a lab in Dubway, Utah were determined to contain live agent.

2. Currently, there is no risk to the public, according to experts.

3. Five active duty Air Force members, 10 active duty Army members, three civilian officials and four contractors are currently in South Korea receiving preventative, a defense official said, according to CNN.

4. The CDC and Defense Department are investigating the incident.
