The Leapfrog Group lifts ASC survey participation cap after 'overwhelming response'

The Leapfrog Group lifted the participation cap on its first-ever ASC safety and quality survey, opening participation to all licensed ASCs in the U.S.

What you should know:

1. Previously, Leapfrog planned to limit the survey to 250 ASCs. The cap was lifted due to an overwhelming response from ASCs.

2. ASCs can submit patient safety and quality information through Leapfrog's national survey beginning April 1. The survey will seek data on facility information, staff members, procedure volume, patient safety practices, patient experience and more.

3. Leapfrog will collect similar information from hospitals regarding their outpatient departments. The data from HOPDs and ASCs will be aggregated in a national report, and participating facilities will receive individual benchmarking reports.

4. Leapfrog will publicly report ASC and HOPD results beginning with its 2020 survey.

"We are encouraged by the overwhelming response we've received from ASCs following the announcement of our national ASC Survey that will be launching this spring," said Leapfrog President and CEO Leah Binder. "With thousands of ASCs operating in America, and virtually no independent data about the safety and quality of these care facilities, there needs to be an unbiased source of data to protect and inform patients. The ASC community's interest in participating shows they're willing to be part of the solution."
