Study: Nurse-Physician Communication Positively Linked to Patient Safety Culture

Researchers found that the level of nurse-physician communication positively correlated to nurses' perceptions of patient safety culture, according to a study published in The Journal of Patient Safety.

For their study, researchers developed a tool for measuring nurse-physician communications. Researchers also conducted interviews with physicians and nurses and distributed surveys to nurses in three ICUs. Results from their research showed nurses reporting the weakest safety culture in their ICU also reported "the least satisfaction" in their communication with physicians.
