SHEA releases infection control recommendations for Choosing Wisely campaign: 3 things to know

The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America released a list of best practices for better infection prevention and control as part of American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation’s Choosing Wisely campaign.

Here are three things to know:

1. Choosing Wisely, established in 2011, is part of a multi-year effort by the ABIM Foundation to support and engage physicians in being better stewards of healthcare resources.

2. SHEA’s recommendations include avoiding invasive devices and not continuing surgical prophylactic antibiotics after the patient has left the operating room.

3. SHEA’s Choosing Wisely list was developed by collecting a comprehensive list of recommendations from members of the SHEA Guidelines, Public Policy and Government Affairs and Antibiotic Stewardship, Education, and Publications Committees with input from the SHEA Research Network.
