Patient Safety Tool: Joint Commission Guide to Reducing SSIs

The Joint Commission offers a free guide on implementing the National Patient Safety Goal to reduce surgical site infections.



"The Joint Commission's Implementation Guide for NPSG.07.05.01 on Surgical Site Infections: The SSI Change Project," is based on The Joint Commission's SSI Change Project, an initiative to reduce SSIs. The Joint Commission's goal, stated in NPSG 07.05.01, is to implement evidence-based practices for preventing SSIs.


The implementation guide provides 23 practices effective against SSIs, based on 17 hospitals' experiences in phase II of the SSI Change Project.
