Patient Safety Tool: Dialysis Station Routine Disinfection Checklist

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Dialysis Bloodstream Infection Prevention Collaborative offer a free checklist for disinfecting dialysis stations.

The dialysis station routine disinfection checklist was recently developed and piloted at the St. Albans satellite clinic affiliated with Burlington, Vt.-based Fletcher Allen Health Care. The checklist aims to prevent bloodstream infections among outpatient hemodialysis patients, and includes processes for both before beginning routine disinfection and after the patient has left the station.
