For the first time, CMS released quality performance scores for individual physicians who opted to provide their data, according to Healthcare Dive.

Here are five things to know:

1. CMS published the scores on its Physician Compare website.

2. The scores rate physicians on factors such as routine screenings, follow-up care, monitoring of patients for healthy weight and reviewing of patient medications.

3. On the site, nearly six in 10 physicians’ scores are displayed. Those physicians whose scores are not included either did not participate or may have had difficulty submitting their scores.

4. The American Medical Association claims the scores are incomplete and the CMS did little to help those physicians who did volunteer to submit their scores.

5. AMA President Steven Stacks, MD, said, “The AMA is a strong supporter of transparency, but today’s action goes in the opposite direction—offering the public information that will lead consumers to draw faulty inferences about the quality of care that an individual physician or group provides.”
