Here are four takeaways:

1. The Opioid Prescription Reduction by Academic Detailing project is expected to begin April 2016.

2. The project will target prescribers at 98 local medical practice locations to educate providers on ways to curb the potential for dangerous over-prescribing of opioids.

3. Debbie Preston, a Broome County Executive, said although there are no known cases of over-prescribing in this community, the OPRAD program can ensure it stays that way.

4. Target providers under OPRAD include dental, general surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery and pain management practices.
