Here are six things to know:
1. The patient went to the surgery center to have a dentist pull two teeth and place caps on two other teeth.
2. Children’s Dental Surgery Center Administrator David Thompson told Fox40 the patient had a reaction to the anesthetics and her heart stopped. Providers stabilized the patient and sent her to Orange, Calif.-based Saint Joseph’s Hospital.
3. Mr. Thompson did not tell Fox 40 the names of the anesthesiologist and the dentist who performed the surgery. He did say the ASC staff members undergo extensive training.
4. The Stockton Police Department is investigating the patient’s death. The police department does not consider the case criminal or suspicious at this point in time.
5. In a statement, the Dental Board of California stated, “The Dental Board of California is aware of the tragic situation. An investigation is underway so specific details of the case cannot be shared at this time. Consumer protection is the board’s highest concern and we want to extend our deepest sympathy to the family.”
6. Becker’s ASC Review reached out to Children’s Dental Surgery Center and is awaiting comment.
