Here are four key facts:
1. UC San Diego has ranked first in San Diego for five consecutive years.
2. The hospital is also ranked in the top 50 nationally in 12 specialties including areas such as cancer, geriatrics and orthopedics.
3. UC San Diego plans to open Jacobs Medical Center in 2016, which is the largest hospital project in California. The 10-story building will host advanced surgery, cancer care and women and infants care.
