Three 2020 challenges keeping ASC leaders up at night

1. Recruitment. Acquisitions, retirement and competition for surgeons all present recruitment challenges for ASCs in 2020. Partnering with solo groups or bolstering physician retention rates can help recruitment efforts.

2. Payer contracts. Negotiating fair contracts will present a challenge for ASCs next year as more procedures migrate to the outpatient setting. Presenting data and analysis to payers will help with negotiating reimbursement.

3. Taking on total joints. Adapting to changes in the CMS rule to pay for total knee replacements in the outpatient setting may create staffing challenges for ASCs as they establish their programs.
