Nationwide, 29 percent of surgeries are performed by the top two physicians — those with the highest case share — at a given ASC, according to VMG Health's "Multi-Specialty ASC Benchmarking Study" for 2022.

The University of Vermont Medical Center is redirecting some surgeries to its ASC after a burst pipe resulted in the flooding of  most of its operating rooms over the weekend, VTDigger reported April 4. 

The consolidation of hospitals and providers into larger health systems is changing the landscape of how health care is delivered across the country. While there are continued debates on the benefits of consolidation, the trend is not slowing down.
