While a handful of ASCs have closed down in 2023, a number of previously shuttered facilities have also reopened. Here are six ASCs closing or reopening this year: 

In January, the Federal Trade Commission proposed a rule that would keep employees free from noncompete agreements nationwide. The rule would have an impact on physicians, around 37 percent of whom are bound by noncompete contracts. 

Signature Health's Brockton (Mass.) Hospital will reopen for outpatient services and colonoscopies in September, after experiencing an electrical fire and closure on Feb. 7, according to an Aug. 6 report from The Enterprise.

Arnold, Md.-based physician Ron Elfenbein, MD, has been convicted for submitting more than $15 million in fraudulent claims for patients who received COVID-19 tests at his medical centers. 

Committees in Georgia are preparing to make recommendations to state lawmakers ahead of the 2024 legislative session regarding the repeal or reform of certificate-of-need laws, according to an Aug. 6 report from The Tifton Gazette.

Dallas-based United Surgical Partners International now has ownership in 455 ASCs and 24 surgical hospitals in 35 states.
