ASCs are continuing to grow in number nationwide, but despite 80% of surgeries being performed in the outpatient setting, 10 states still have fewer than one ASC for every 100,000 residents. 

While California has the most ASCs of any state according to the most recent data from the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association, Maryland has the most ASCs per capita. Meanwhile, Vermont has the fewest in both number and per capita. 

Nashville-based SurgNet, a new-to-market ASC management and development company, is struggling to grow in its home state due to complicated certificate of need laws, according to a Nov. 3 report from the Nashville Business Journal.

The median compensation earned by physicians in the third quarter was $358,753, up $7,253 compared to the same period last year, according to data from Kaufman Hall.

Peripheral Vascular Associates, a 27-provider group, has notified state officials of its plan to lay off workers and close multiple offices.
