National Medical Association names new president: 4 points

National Medical Association appointed Edith Mitchell, MD, as its new president, according to an article by Modern Healthcare.

Here are four points:

1. National Medical Association is an organization of more than 30,000 African American physicians.

2. Dr. Mitchell is a clinical professor of oncology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

3. She also heads the gastrointestinal oncology program at the university.

4. An associate director for diversity programs at the university, Dr. Mitchell is also the director of the Center to Eliminate Cancer Disparities.
