Here are four key notes:
1. Researchers found 52 percent of Pennsylvanians travel five miles or less to receive primary care from a physician.
2. A mere 22 percent of patients in rural communities had to travel 30 miles to obtain access to a physician.
3. Eighty-one percent of participants could see a physician in the time frame they requested. In rural communities, 68 percent reported they could get an appointment with a physician during their preferred time frame.
4. Karen Rizzo, MD, 2015 president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, said, “Overall, a large percentage of patients are accessing the services of their primary care physician when they want and within a short travel distance.”
