Michigan hospital to reopen surgery center after fire — 3 insights

Bronson Methodist Hospital is preparing to reopen its surgery center after a small fire May 15 closed the center temporarily, local news affiliate Wood TV reports.

What you should know:

1. Each day, up to 100 patients of the Kalamazoo, Mich.-based hospital have had to reschedule surgeries or have them performed at other hospitals.

2. The fire caused millions of dollars in damage to surgical equipment and supplies. A malfunctioning piece of surgical equipment started the fire.

3. State officials gave Bronson Memorial permission to reopen the center May 20. The hospital plans to do so on May 24.
