Inside this state’s ‘evolving’ noncompete policy

Lawmakers in Connecticut have been drafting an expansion of the state’s restrictions on noncompete agreements for low wage workers.

The current proposal raises the salary threshold under which noncompetes would be prohibited from roughly twice the minimum wage, or about $60-70,000 annually, to approximately $100,000-106,000, or three times the minimum wage.

Most noncompetes would be limited in scope to one year, with longer restrictions permitted only if employers continue paying full salary and benefits during that period.
