Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare has agreed to settle class action litigation related to a July 2023 data breach that affected more than 11 million patients, according to a July 31 report from The HIPAA Journal.
Hackers accessed and acquired databases from the company, including a database containing more than 27 million records. The database was listed for sale when HCA Healthcare did not pay the ransom.
Patient information accessed in the breach included names, contact information, dates of birth, and appointment information. Individuals received care from HCA Healthcare hospitals and practices across 20 states.
HCA Health denies the claims and contentions of the lawsuit. The company did not admit any liability or wrongdoing in the settlement, the release said.
