Dr. Pugliese trained under the developer of phacoemulsification for eye surgery and introduced the concept to the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania, according to the report.
Dr. Pugliese was an alumnus of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he graduated with his medical degree Cum Laude in 1954.
His ASC, now called Eye Care Specialists, was the location for many ophthalmic firsts in the state of Pennsylvania, including combining cataract removal with lens implantation, corneal transplant and glaucoma procedures and subspecialty integration for eyes under one roof, according to the report.
