Here are four observations:

1. Choosing Widely Canada, Canadian Federation of Medical Students Federation and medicale etudiante du Quebec developed the Choosing Wisely list in 2015.

2. The list, detailed in the study, incorporated medical student behaviors impacting resource use.

3. The list, “Six Things That Medical Students and Trainees Should Question,” recommends behaviors students should avoid, such as ordering the most invasive test instead of first pursuing less invasive options.

4. The list also points out aspects of medical training that encourage resource overuse due to clinical supervision hierarchies. Medical students should feel comfortable clarifying why tests or treatments are ordered.
