Compliance outranks data security as health IT priority: 5 insights

Healthcare industry leaders are prioritizing compliance instead of focusing on data security, based on the 2016 Vormetric Data Threat Report, according to Infosecurity Magazine.

Here are five insights:

1. Of those surveyed, 96 percent reported they are expecting cyberattacks on their databases.

2. One in five healthcare organizations has experienced a breach in the past year.

3. Complexity and staff shortage present the greatest barriers to data security adoption.

4. Sixty-one percent of respondents said compliance is the top IT security goal, while only 40 percent reported preventing data breaches is a top security goal.

5. The problem is compliance won’t protect organizations from a data breach.
