Columbus Eye Surgery Center is an AmSurg center that includes 18 physicians and is accredited by AAAHC. The center opened in 1996 and is focused on eye procedures.

Dr. Derick kept a blog while he was on his trip with a team of three surgeons and nine surgical assistants. The team carried 1,200 pounds of surgical equipment, instruments and microscopes.

The team provided care at National Eye Hospital in Managua, where they were able to perform 152 cataract and glaucoma surgeries over four days.

“The people of Nicaragua are incredibly kind and were so patient as they waited for their turn under the microscope,” said Dr. Derick.
