California care center becoming Federally Qualified Health Center — 5 highlights

The Deran Koligian Ambulatory Care Center at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, Calif., is transitioning into a Federally Qualified Health Center, according to YourCentralValley.com. Here are five things to know:

1. A partnership with Visalia, Calif.-based Family HealthCare Network will enable the center to transition into an FQHC to provide healthcare for underserved communities.

2. The transition will expand healthcare for local patients covered by the California Medical Assistance Program, also known as Medi-Cal.

3. The Deran Koligian Ambulatory Care Center is an 80,000 square-foot facility that treats around 125,000 patients a year. It features a surgical services center for outpatient surgery.

4. Half of the population in Fresno County is covered under Medi-Cal. The county is one of three in California with a large number of people covered by the program.

5. As soon as summer 2018, FHCN could begin operating outpatient services such as surgical, dental and eye procedures.
