AmSurg’s recent moves

Nashville, Tenn.-based AmSurg is one of the largest ASC companies in the U.S., with a network of more than 250 surgery centers across 34 states.

Here are three recent moves by the ASC operator, as reported by Becker’s.

1. AmSurg recently acquired Pinnacle Surgery Center in Covington, La. The 8,787-square-foot center features three operating rooms and one procedure room. The practice employs 17 physicians who specialize in spine procedures, pain management and eye procedures.

2. While physicians still hold majority stakes in most ASCs, according to a March 13 MedPAC report to Congress, corporate ownership is rising. Between 2018 and 2023, the number of ASCs owned, wholly or in part, by the five largest corporate entities — United Surgical Partners International, AmSurg, SCA Health, HCA Healthcare and Surgery Partners — rose by 15.7%, growing from 1,152 to 1,333 facilities, according to the MedPAC report. AmSurg alone holds a 3.9% market share.

3. AmSurg recently introduced a series of new company values that will guide care at its partner ASCs. The four new values include care deeply, cultivate integrity, champion excellence and celebrate teamwork. In addition, AmSurg is rolling out a companywide initiative to integrate the new values. The rollout includes leadership alignment, employee engagement, recognition programs, and patient and partner commitment.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
