Here’s what you should know:
1. Two Philadelphia-based ophthalmologists brought the suit against Allergan. They claimed the drug maker provided consulting and “other valuable services” through its Allergan Access program to ophthalmologists that prescribed Allergan eye care products.
2. The prescribed products were covered by Medicare and Medicaid.
3. The suit was filed in 2009 under the False Claims Act. The government initially elected to not pursue the suit in 2010, but the law firms representing the ophthalmologists pursued the case resulting in the recent settlement.
