“We are pleased to work in partnership with the schools to provide free physicals to student athletes in support of the Fairbanks community,” said Mark Wade, MD, president of The Surgery Center. “We believe it’s the first time free sports physicals have been offered as a group for students.”

The surgery center allowed students with an official athletic physical form from their schools as well as school IDs to walk in for a free physical. Physicians and nurses provided services at the ASC on a voluntary basis.

“People ask why we’re volunteering our time to do this,” said Dr. Wade. “The physicians and staff at The Surgery Center of Fairbanks are strongly committed to the Fairbanks community. The sports physical clinic is being provided as a public service of this ongoing support.”

Founded in November 2010, the surgery center has treated thousands of Alaskan residents. Services provided at the surgery center include orthopedics, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, pain management and ENT in addition to physical therapy. The ASC is Joint Commission-accredited and includes both adult and pediatric procedures.
