Surgical Care Affiliates partnered with Executive Surgery Center in Tomball, Texas. A physician-led center, Executive Surgery Center offers services including orthopedic, sports medicine and pain management.

Ambulatory care services spending hits $244.3B; up 7.3% in Q2
A Census’ Quarterly Service Survey found ambulatory care services spending totaled $244.3 billion, up 7.3 percent from the second quarter last year. Within ambulatory care services, outpatient care spending increased 9.2 percent and home health services rallied 6.8 percent.

ConnectiCare reevaluates decision, will stay in CT health exchange
Connecticut’s largest insurer ConnectiCare announced its intentions to stay in the state’s ACA exchange, after it had decided to pull out of the exchange last week. ConnectiCare will join Anthem as the only other option through the exchange.

Sen. Bernie Sanders among senators demanding answers from Aetna about ACA withdrawal
A group of senators sent a letter to Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini asking for an explanation as to why the payer exited many Affordable Care Act exchanges. Senators seeking answers from the payer include Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Ed Markey, Sherrod Brown and Bill Nelson. Last month, Aetna reported it was leaving 11 ACA exchanges after offering plans in 15 exchanges this year. Aetna has previously said it anticipates losses totaling $300 million on these state exchanges.

Global market for anesthetic, respiratory devices to reach $24.2B by 2020
The global market for anesthetic and respiratory devices reached nearly $13.1 billion in 2014 and $14.4 billion in 2015. Should the market reach this estimation of $24.2 billion, the market will have increased at a compound annual growth rate of 10.9 percent between 2015 and 2020.

Yearlong CON battle over Green Mountain Surgical Center continues
For more than a year, an independent physician group has challenged the Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems and St. Albans, Va.-based Northwestern Medical Center over state certificate-of-need approval for Green Mountain Surgical Center in Colchester, Va. In the regulatory filings, the surgery center investors said the center would bring in 14 percent of patient surgeries from University of Vermont Medical Center and 3 percent from Northwestern Medical Center.

Aurora Health Care opens $38M Germantown Health Center, equipped with ASC
Aurora Health Care opened Germantown (Wis.) Health Center, which features an ambulatory surgery center. The project totals $38 million and the surgery center will house six operating rooms.
