Hospital acquisition of physician practices down.
In 2011, hospitals and health systems accounted for more than half of all physician practice acquisition deals. In 2013, they accounted for just 14 percent. Symbion reports $133.9M in Q1 revenue.
Symbion released its first quarter 2014 financial results. The company reported $133.97 million in revenue compared to $130.38 million in the first quarter of 2013. Operating income was $21.34 million, up 3.8 percent from $20.56 million in the first quarter of 2013.

Rex Healthcare to develop joint venture ASC.
Rex Healthcare, based in Raleigh, N.C., plans to recruit 20 surgeons to 30 surgeons for a joint venture ambulatory surgery center. Rex Healthcare already operates two similar projects in the state.

Roanoke County Eye Center to add 3rd operating room.
The Virginia Department of Health has given the Roanoke (Va.) County Eye Center approval for the addition of a third operating room. The new OR will accommodate growth at the center's locations in Salem, Va. The expansion will cost approximately $786,000.

CMS expands authority over abusive prescribing practices.
CMS issued a final rule that will allow the agency to revoke Medicare enrollment from physicians and other eligible professionals for abusive prescribing practices and patterns. Read the full article on Becker's Hospital Review.

3 AmSurg centers earn AAAHC accreditation.
Digestive Endoscopy Center in Kettering, Ohio; Preston Crossing Endoscopy Center in Plano, Texas; and Minneapolis Eye Center in Golden Valley, Minn., recently earned successful AAAHC accreditation. All three centers are affiliated with AmSurg.
