SCA revenue totals $299.9M, adds 9 facilities in Q2
Surgical Care Affiliates’ net operating revenue totaled $299.9 million, an 18.2 percent increase from the same period the year prior. SCA acquired nine new facilities in the second quarter, four of which are consolidated, two of which are nonconsolidated and three of which are managed-only facilities.

Nobilis Health Q2 revenue up 26.6% after 3-hospital acquisitions in 2015
Nobilis Health reported a 26.6 percent increase in revenue for the second quarter of 2016. Revenue per case jumped from $10,136 over the same period last year to $11,524 in 2016 due to a higher acuity case mix. The company purchased three new hospitals last year.
St. Mary’s Hospital settles lawsuit related to endoscopy death; investigation of gastroenterologist closed
Madison, Wis.-based St. Mary’s Hospital settled a lawsuit following an endoscopy patient’s death in 2013. The patient was undergoing a routine endoscopy and was under conscious sedation. He suffered irreversible brain damage from a lack of oxygen after the endoscopy. The lawsuit alleged the physician gave the patient more than double the amount of sedation drugs than was ordered. It also claimed the physician did not properly monitor the patient.
US & Britain team up to fight antibiotic-resistant bacteria with $350M initiative
HHS and Wellcome Trust, a London-based global biomedical research charity, are collaborating to accelerate antibiotic development for antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The partnership hopes to speed the antibiotic development process early enough to garner public and private investments for advanced development, which will help with British and U.S. regulatory approval.
Tenet’s Q2 ambulatory net operating revenue reaches $442M, up 37.3%
The company’s net operating revenue in ambulatory care totaled $442 million, a 37.3 percent increase from $322 in the second quarter last year. On a pro forma same-facility system-wide basis, Tenet’s revenue in this segment rose 11.7 percent. Cases rallied 5.2 percent and revenue per case increased 6.1 percent.
Humana brings Ameritox to court for false & fraudulent claims
Louisville, Ky.-based Humana is suing Ameritox, a Baltimore-based urine drug testing company, for alleged improper billing. Humana claims Ameritox submitted “false and fraudulent claims” to Humana for urine testing services not covered by the payer’s health plans. According to the suit, the payer hopes to get millions of dollars back that Humana alleges it overpaid the drug testing company for these invalid claims.
