Here are five things to know:
1. Mr. Moore founded the Texas ASC Society and a Texas-based consulting firm before dreaming up the Hawaii ASC Association. The organization will have its inaugural symposium on Aug. 23 in Honolulu.
2. Ron Walker, RN, was named the first president of the Hawaii ASC Association in 2016 and manages the day-to-day operations. The 2016-17 board members are Darryl Kan, MD, Hugo Higa, MD, Bill Wong, MD, Rob Wong, MD, and Ed Montell, MD, is an honorary member. The 2016-17 officers include Carter Blanton as vice president and Jessica Dew, RN as secretary and treasurer.
3. According to ASCA’s “Quality Patient Care in Hawaii” report, there were 18 Medicare-certified ASCs in Hawaii in 2014 that saved Medicare $3.3 million on cataract procedures and $1.3 million on colonoscopies.
4. HASCA partnered with LSZ Consulting’s Lauren Zirbel to lead the organization on all governmental issues and provide insight into political concerns and healthcare-related issues in Hawaii.
5. The association has 11 active memebers including Covenant Surgical Partners, Regent RCM and Surgical Notes.
