1. Mergers and acquisitions. Acquisitions and physician practice partnerships between large medical groups, private equity firms and health systems will continue to increase in 2020. Smaller physician groups will be acquisition targets as they strive to meet value-based care goals.
2. Outpatient total joints. With CMS now paying for total knee replacements in ASCs, and the removal of total hip replacements from the inpatient-only list, outpatient total joint replacements will remain a key trend next year.
3. Hospital partnerships. As payers continue shifting cases to lower-cost settings, more hospitals will look to partner with ASCs.
