26 Philadelphia ASCs lost money in 2022

Of the 102 ASCs in the five-county region of Philadelphia, 76 had a profit in 2022, while 26 lost money, according to an Oct. 3 report from the Philadelphia Business Journal. 

Five ASCs in the area generated profits of over $4 million in 2022, while five lost more than $2 million, according to the latest financial report of outpatient care facilities issued by the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council. 

Overall, ASCs in the state saw an 8 percentjump in revenue from the previous year. 

The Chalfont, Pa.-based Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Specialty Care & Surgery Center saw the largest profit in the region at $5.98 million on revenue of $10.4 million.

The other four regional ASCs earning over $4 million include the Philadelphia Surgery Center in Narberth ($5.13 million), Bucks County Surgical Suites in Warrington ($5.13 million), Crozer Health Surgery Center at Haverford ($4.48 million) and Riddle Surgery Center in Media ($4.26 million). 

The biggest financial loss was faced by Center City-based Jefferson Surgical Center, which saw a loss of $5.5 million.  

Other facilities with above a $2 million deficit include Physicians Care Surgery Center in Royersford (-$3.75 million), Doylestown Surgery Center (-$3.11 million), Muve-Warminster (-$2.13 million) and Ambulatory Surgery Center of Bala Cynwyd (-$2.1 million).
